Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

CUPE 1883 is committed to Reconciliation and to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion across our union. We believe every member deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness, and to feel a genuine sense of belonging.

Reconciliation means acknowledging the ongoing impacts of colonization and working toward respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples through learning, accountability, and action. Equity means recognizing and addressing systemic barriers so all members have fair access to opportunities and supports. Diversity reflects the many identities, backgrounds, cultures, and lived experiences that strengthen our union. Inclusion means creating welcoming spaces where members feel safe to participate, speak up, and be themselves.

Our REDI commitment is reflected in our advocacy, education, and actions, including sharing resources, recognizing days of significance, and supporting inclusive union practices.

Together, we are building a stronger, more inclusive CUPE 1883.

Days of Significance

CUPE 1883 is committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment where all members feel recognized, valued, and a true sense of belonging. We recognize that our strength comes from the diversity of our membership, including different cultures, religions, identities, and lived experiences.

Each month, we will share Days of Significance that highlight cultural, religious, and community observances. These postings are intended to promote awareness, understanding, and learning across our membership, and to acknowledge the important moments that matter to our members.

If there is a specific holiday, observance, or celebration that is meaningful to you and you would like to see it included, we welcome your input. Please send your suggestions to inclusion@cupe1883.ca.
