Disability Pride Month is dedicated to honouring the history, achievements and culture of people with disabilities while challenging societal ableism. It aims to shift the narrative away from medical limitations and towards identity, community and diversity.
The Disability Pride Flag is intentional in it’s symbolism.
Black background represents mourning and rage for disabled victims of negligence, illness and eugenics.
Diagonal shape symbolizes the “cutting across” societal barriers and the creativity disabled people use to navigate the world.
Flag Colours: The stripes feature five colours:
- Green (sensory disabilities)
- Blue (psychological and mental health disabilities)
- Red (physical disabilities)
- Yellow (neurodivergence and cognitive disabilities)
- White (Invisible and undiagnosed disabilities)
